Guide Roles

At ChaCha, we have three types of Guides to tackle all sorts of questions. As a prospective employee, it is important to fully understand and appreciate each role.

1. Generalist/Specialist (GE/SP) - This Guide's role is to handle questions which cannot be answered by previously answered questions (known as PAQs) already in our database. Generalists and Specialists should be the remarkably informed brainiacs and masters of trivia whom friends call when they need quick information. Should you choose to work in this Guide capacity, be ready to respond to challenging questions, and know how to cite your sources!

Requires: Exceptional Internet search skills, strong general knowledge, spelling and grammar skills, excellent reasoning ability, sound judgment and the ability to communicate well with people.

2. Expediter (EX) - If you are quick-thinking, love fast-paced action and have great typing skills, then this is the Guide role for you! Expediters are the first to see questions and have direct access to a wide and impressive variety of ChaCha's PAQs. They use these PAQs to respond to questions that other Guides have already successfully answered; however, if the question cannot be answered, the Expediter simply refers it to a Specialist/Generalist.

Requires: Friendly attitude, desire to help people, and a sense of humor. Fast typing and quick thinking are a a must!

3. Voice Transcriber (VT) - The third and final Guide role is that of the Voice Transcriber. The responsibility of a Voice Transcriber is very simple: when a call is placed to 1-800-2-CHA-CHA, the question is transferred directly to the Voice Transcriber, who takes the audio and transcribes it into text. Typing skills, along with general knowledge are very important for a successful VT.

Requires: Good listening skills, good spelling, fast typing, broad general knowledge, and the smarts to figure out what ChaCha customers are really asking when they call in.
